If you have undergone ankle surgery, it is important to start as soon as possible fysiotherapy. Of course, the surgeon must give permission for this. Sometimes you may not start until later because the structures that have been operated on may not yet be loaded.
The first phase is aimed at reducing swelling and pain and increasing the mobility of the ankle. Mobility is important to ultimately experience as few restrictions as possible in your daily life and sport.
Once the mobility has been optimized, strength building can be started in order to improve the load capacity and functionality of the ankle. You need this strength to be able to take a long walk, for example, but also to maintain the stability of the ankle joint.
If the strength phase has been successfully completed, training will take place on sport-specific goals. In this phase, attention is paid to the explosiveness of the muscles around the ankle joint and running is started.
Before you start running, your footwear will be looked at. A gait analysis is performed, resulting in a shoe recommendation. Shoes form the basis of the gait pattern and can be an important cause of the development of ankle complaints.
