The Mulligan concept, named after the New Zealander fysiotherapist Brian Mulligan, is taught in a six-day graduate course fysiotherapists. A wide variety of mobilization techniques are taught. In our practice, five fysiotherapists completed this course. Each location has at least one fysiotherapist who can treat you according to the Mulligan concept.
The MULLIGANâ„¢ concept is a method used by us to mobilize pain-free. The method is based on a so-called 'tracking problem'. As a metaphor you can think of a drawer in a cupboard that does not slide smoothly. Finding the track is often a matter of a subtle adjustment of the position of the drawer, after which opening and closing occurs without friction. By grinding in this corrected movement painlessly in a joint, the normal pattern is restored. This phenomenon often leads to a rapid and lasting recovery of joint function.
The MULLIGANâ„¢ concept is not suitable for all problems, but it is suitable for many complaints of the musculoskeletal system: knee, ankle, hip, shoulder, back, arm, wrist and hand. You may have stumbled or made a wrong move. You can't see anything on X-rays or scans, but you still experience pain when you move. Sometimes the complaint has been going on for years - sometimes only a few days. If a joint does not track properly, the MULLIGANâ„¢ concept method often yields a lot of results and is generally quick.
