At Fysioplein we continue to develop ourselves to support our clients in the broadest possible way. That is why we are proud of colleague Patty, who recently completed the ASM-OldStars trainer course. This training offers tools to let the elderly move in a safe, varied and above all enjoyable way - entirely according to the principles of the Athletic Skills Model (ASM).
What is the ASM-OldStars trainer course?
The OldStars trainer course is an initiative of the National Fund for the Elderly, in collaboration with the ASM. The training focuses on offering low-threshold forms of exercise for the elderly, where not performance but fun, social connection and injury prevention are central. By means of the ten basic forms of exercise - such as balancing, jumping, rolling, wrestling and aiming - essential motor skills are addressed and strengthened.
These basic forms are tailored to the level and possibilities of the older target group. The training is playful, functional and versatile. They contribute to more self-confidence in movement and to maintaining independence, something that is an important goal for many older people.
From broad basis to targeted deepening
For Patty, this course is a valuable deepening of her knowledge of the ASM. She has previously studied the Athletic Skills Model from a broader perspective of movement. The OldStars course offered her the opportunity to translate it to the specific needs of the older target group.
Although they are within Fysioplein does not primarily work with the elderly, this broadening of knowledge is of great importance to the team. By gaining insight into exercise programs for different ages and levels, stronger mutual cooperation is created and it is easier to switch or refer within the practice.
Added value for practice
The knowledge that Patty gained in the course is not only applicable in exercise groups, but also within individual rehabilitation and exercise programs. The development of variation in movement, attention to motor skills and the importance of fun and social interaction, are principles that can be applied within almost all target groups.
In addition, taking this course contributes to the development of Fysioplein as a practice that focuses on sustainable and preventive health care. By having expertise in the field of elderly movement care in-house, we can also optimally utilize future initiatives and collaborations in this area.
Investing in knowledge is investing in quality
By completing the ASM-OldStars trainer course, Patty shows how important it is to continue learning and developing broadly as a physiotherapist. It fits in with the core values of Fysioplein: progressive, expert and involved. We congratulate her on this great step and look forward to seeing this knowledge in practice.
