Why use a Compex during your rehabilitation?
After surgery, injury, or a period of inactivity, it can be difficult to properly control muscles again. This applies particularly to the thigh muscle (quadriceps) after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL surgery). Due to pain, swelling, and reduced muscle control, this muscle may temporarily generate less force, causing a decline in muscle strength and function.
A Compex device uses neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES)Electrical impulses are used to stimulate the nerves and muscles, causing the muscle to actively contract. In this way, the Compex complements regular physiotherapy and helps to improve muscle activation during rehabilitation.
Research shows that the use of NMES in combination with physiotherapy can contribute to:
- recovering muscle strength faster;
- improving the function of the knee;
- reducing muscle weakness and muscle loss;
- better support for recovery in the first phase after surgery.
Particularly after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, the Compex can help to better activate the quadriceps and allow them to return stronger. This can support the recovery of daily activities and the resumption of sports.
The Compex does not replace physiotherapeutic treatment, but is an aid to enhance the effect of rehabilitation. Therefore, its use is always coordinated with your treating physiotherapist and combined with an appropriate exercise program.
Why is using a Compex beneficial?
A Compex is a valuable tool that can provide extra support, especially during the first weeks and months of rehabilitation. By using the device temporarily at home, you can work independently on restoring muscle strength and control alongside your treatments at the practice.
Because the need for muscle activation is often temporary during a rehabilitation phase, we offer the option to rent a Compex for an agreed period.
