The added value of dietetics for recovery, health, and a healthy lifestyle
Nutrition plays an important role in your health, recovery, and daily functioning. A healthy and appropriate diet can contribute to more energy, improved resilience, and support physical recovery. Therefore, dietetics can be a valuable complement to physiotherapy.
At Fysioplein We like to look at the bigger picture. In addition to exercise, training, and treating physical complaints, lifestyle and nutrition also play an important role in achieving your personal goals. If nutritional advice could be a valuable addition to your treatment, we recommend contacting a specialized dietitian.
What does a dietitian do?
A dietitian is the specialist in the field of nutrition and health. Together with you, the dietitian maps out your current eating habits, lifestyle, health, and personal goals. Based on this, you receive personalized nutritional advice tailored to your situation.
A dietitian looks not only at what you eat, but also at your daily habits, preferences, and capabilities. The goal is to make practical and achievable changes that fit your life and that you can maintain in the long term.
When can a dietitian help?
A dietitian can provide support in various situations, such as:
- Overweight or underweight
- Diabetes
- High blood pressure or elevated cholesterol
- Stomach and intestinal complaints
- Food allergies or intolerances
- Sports nutrition and improving sports performance
- Recovery after an injury or surgery
- Building and maintaining muscle mass
- A healthy lifestyle and prevention
Nutritional advice can also be valuable during and after menopause. During this period, many changes occur in the body, partly due to hormonal changes. An appropriate diet can help maintain muscle mass, support bone health, improve energy levels, and manage changes in weight and body composition.
Dietetics as a complement to physiotherapy
Nutrition and exercise reinforce each other. A good nutritional intake can contribute to recovery, muscle building, and improving your physical resilience. Therefore, the combination of physiotherapy and dietetics can be particularly valuable.
For example, with:
- Rehabilitation after surgery
- Sports injuries
- Arthrosis and joint complaints
- Overweight combined with physical complaints
- Improving muscle strength and fitness
- Maintaining an active and healthy lifestyle
By paying attention to nutrition in addition to physiotherapy, you work specifically towards a sustainable improvement of your health.
How does a course of treatment with a dietitian work?
A process often begins with a free and no-obligation introductory meetingDuring this consultation, you will meet the dietitian and discuss your needs, wishes, and goals. Together, you will determine which type of guidance suits you best.
If you decide to start the program, a comprehensive intake follows. During this session, your health, eating habits, and lifestyle are discussed. Based on this, the dietitian draws up personalized nutritional advice.
During follow-up appointments, your progress is discussed, you can ask questions, and the advice is adjusted where necessary. In this way, you work step by step towards a healthy and achievable diet that suits your personal situation.
Is dietetics covered?
Yes, dietetics is from the basic insurance reimbursed when there is a medical indication. A maximum is covered by the basic insurance. 3 hours of dietary advice per calendar year reimbursed. For adults, this reimbursement usually falls under the mandatory deductible.
Do you require more guidance? Then some supplementary health insurance policies offer additional reimbursement for dietetics. The reimbursement varies by health insurer and supplementary policy. It is therefore advisable to check your own policy conditions.
