Did you break your elbow?

If you have broken your elbow, it is very important to start physical therapy as soon as possible. Ask your doctor when you can start. The doctor will determine when the elbow is 'exercise stable'.
During surgery, the fracture is stabilized to allow it to heal, whether or not in combination with plaster.

If this is not necessary, a period of plaster is often chosen to allow the fracture to heal. When the fracture has healed sufficiently and the arm is out of the plaster, physiotherapy can be started.

Our primary concern is to improve elbow mobility. Next, we focus on the load capacity.

Revalidation

Your rehabilitation is specifically aimed at the (sports) goals you have set yourself.
The first phase of recovery after an elbow fracture is aimed at improving the mobility of the elbow through exercise therapy. Manual therapy, Mulligan concept and taping can also be used additionally.
The second phase consists of exercise therapy to increase the load capacity. In this phase, strength itself and strength endurance are trained. After that - if that is your goal - you will work towards resuming your sports activities through training. These are often training sessions with attention to explosives such as throwing and catching.

Intake

During the intake, your complaint after an elbow fracture will be mapped out on the basis of an interview and a physical examination.

Treatment plan

After the intake, a treatment plan is drawn up and discussed. It tells you what the best treatment is for you.

Treatment

If you have had an elbow fracture, you will be treated according to our care plan. The care plan has been specially developed for these complaints and shows good results.

Measuring moments

Tests are taken at fixed times and questionnaires are completed to monitor your rehabilitation. The outcome is evaluated and the treatment plan adjusted if necessary.

Treatments after an elbow fracture

After the intake, exercise therapy and, if necessary, the Mulligan concept and/or manual therapy can be started quickly. You can also choose to tape your elbow if necessary. Dry needling can be used after an elbow fracture if there is increased muscle tension in the muscles around the elbow joint, which delays rehabilitation.
