Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is an overuse complaint on the outside of your elbow. The tendons that are responsible for extending your wrist and fingers attach to the outside of the elbow. These tendons have become overloaded in tennis elbow. If there is pain on the outside of the elbow where squeezing (making a fist) causes pain, this is often a case of lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow). It is important to start physiotherapy quickly with these complaints to ensure that it does not become a chronic complaint.
Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) is an overuse complaint on the inside of your elbow. The tendons that are responsible for bending your wrist and fingers attach to the inside of your elbow. These tendons have become overloaded in golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis). It is important to start physiotherapy quickly with these complaints to ensure that it does not become a chronic complaint.
We also know that in some cases these complaints originate from the neck. That is why the neck will always be checked during the intake and treated if necessary.
If physiotherapy does not provide sufficient results, you may consider consulting an orthopedist through your GP.
Your rehabilitation is specifically aimed at the goals you set yourself. In order to quickly get the pain under control, it is very important to significantly reduce the load and to function as pain-free as possible.
In addition, the Mulligan concept can contribute to a rapid recovery from both tennis elbow and golfer's elbow. Taping and dry needling can also have a positive influence on getting the pain under control. When the pain has subsided, exercise therapy can be started to restore the load capacity of the arm to the old level.
If the complaints come from your neck, this condition will be treated with the Mulligan concept or with manual therapy.
During the intake, your tennis or golfer's elbow will be mapped out on the basis of an interview and a physical examination.
After the intake, a treatment plan is drawn up and discussed. It tells you what the best treatment is for you.
If you have tennis elbow or golfer's elbow, you will be treated according to our care plan. The care plan has been specially developed for these complaints and shows good results.
Tests are taken at fixed times and questionnaires are completed to monitor your rehabilitation. The outcome is evaluated and the treatment plan adjusted if necessary.
After the intake, it may be decided to make an ultrasound of your elbow to rule out a tendon tear or other damage. It can also be considered to apply taping. The Mulligan concept in combination with stretching exercises is often the most obvious treatment strategy. When the pain is under control, exercise therapy is started in order to optimize the load capacity of the affected structures. Subsequently, if you have a sports wish, you will receive sport-specific training.
