Upper leg complaints

In the past 30 years we have gained a lot of knowledge about the rehabilitation of patients with muscle complaints in the upper leg. These are often sports-related complaints that can be treated well by means of fysiotherapy.

The complaints are often in the hamstrings (back of the thigh) or at the front of the thigh (quadriceps). If you suffer from groin complaints, click here

Our approach

During the intake, the fysiotherapist with you to the possible cause of the complaint and then draws up a recovery plan.

Treatments

The treatment is aimed at resuming work, sports or other activities as soon as possible.

Everything about upper leg complaints

Muscle complaints can have many different causes. A good analysis of the problem is therefore essential before starting treatment.

Fysioplein helps you by looking closely at the source of the complaints during the intake. By means of various tests, such as a muscle strength test or ultrasound examination, we look for the nature of the problem.

We then choose an approach that is in line with the treatment. Upper leg complaints often arise during exercise (it suddenly disappears). The rehabilitation of a muscle complaint requires a specialist approach to achieve a good recovery and to be able to resume your sport quickly and responsibly. A common muscle injury in the upper leg is a hamstring injury.

This injury is often sustained in a sprint or when the muscle is overstretched. Prognostically, a hamstring injury resulting from a sprint is more favorable than that from overstretching. Various tests are possible to find out what the problem is, but an ultrasound can also identify the problem properly.

A less common muscle injury is an injury to the front of the thigh (quadriceps). They mainly occur with kicking movements or with an acute moment when it "shoots in". In order to map this out properly, it can be decided to make an ultrasound of it.

The following applies to the above complaints: the sooner you start your recovery, the sooner you can resume your (sports) activities.

We have developed a number of care plans especially for patients with the above muscle complaints. The care plan is a personal treatment plan, in which your treatment process is precisely tailored to your complaints.

After performing a number of tests and completing questionnaires, it is determined which care plan is best suited for you. There are special test and measurement instruments to map the effects of the treatment. In addition, we have an ultrasound system to map out your muscle complaint.

After the intake interview, a treatment plan will be drawn up with you and the treatment will start. Evaluation is carried out at regular intervals during the rehabilitation process. The evaluation consists of tests and/or questionnaires that are discussed with you. Then the further treatment plan is outlined.

Treatments for upper leg complaints

Treatment - exercise therapy - 01

Exercise therapy

During the exercise therapy we look for shortcomings and/or limitations that are present at that moment: mobility, balance, coordination, strength endurance, strength and speed. They differ per individual. You therefore receive exercise therapy that is tailored to your needs.

Shoe advice: gait analysis - 01

Gait analysis and/or shoe advice

During the gait analysis, your old shoes will be assessed. You have to walk up and down in front of the camera a few times to film and analyze your walking pattern. You then walk barefoot in front of the camera several times and, if necessary, in corrected shoes to judge the difference. The gait pattern is then assessed frame by frame to determine whether there is compensation from the feet, knees and/or hip/pelvis and appropriate shoe advice can be given.

Isokinetic strength test

This test is widely used within our rehabilitation programs to assess where you stand in rehabilitation, what the next steps are in recovery and whether you can start with (partial) sports resumption.
