Have you sprained your ankle or are you having trouble with your ankle after a sprain? Have this assessed quickly by one of our physiotherapists. The sooner you start physiotherapy, the sooner you can achieve your (sports) goals. If you start physiotherapy later, there is a chance of stiffness of the ankle and a longer rehabilitation.
After an ankle sprain, the ankle often becomes swollen and painful within minutes. When you can no longer stand on the foot / ankle, it is advised to take an X-ray to rule out a fracture.
After an ankle sprain, physiotherapy can be started immediately. Initially, the focus is on reducing pain and swelling by means of cooling and, if necessary, taping, in order to then restore the mobility of the ankle. After that, strength, coordination and balance will have to be restored before sports-specific training and resumption of sports can take place.
Your rehabilitation is specifically aimed at the goals you set yourself. The first phase is about getting the pain and swelling under control and improving the mobility of the ankle. After that, the load capacity of the ankle must be optimized. Finally, there is sport-specific training.
During the intake, your ankle problem will be mapped out on the basis of an interview and a physical examination.
After the intake, a treatment plan is drawn up and discussed. It tells you what the best treatment is for you.
If you have ankle complaints, you will be treated according to one of our care plans. The care plan has been specially developed for ankle complaints after a sprain and shows good results.
Tests are taken at fixed times and questionnaires are completed to monitor your rehabilitation. The outcome is evaluated and the treatment plan adjusted if necessary.
After the intake, it may be decided to make an ultrasound of your ankle to assess whether there is damage to the ankle ligaments or the tendons and muscles that control the ankle. Manual therapy and/or taping may also be considered. Exercise therapy is often the obvious treatment strategy.
