The duration of the treatment after knee replacement strongly depends on the goals you set for yourself. Read more about the rehabilitation on this page.
Have you had an operation in which a prosthesis has been placed or are you going to have a knee prosthesis in the near future? Make here an appointment.
If your knee shows advanced wear (arthrosis) and physiotherapy has no effect on your complaints, surgical placement of a knee prosthesis may be considered. The orthopedic surgeon will choose from a number of prostheses.
In the total knee arthroplasty, the entire knee is replaced by a plastic meniscus block. There is also a half prosthesis. Finally, the specialist can decide to replace the back of the kneecap with a button in the case of a total knee prosthesis. Each prosthesis has its own rehabilitation process.
Your attending physician will decide in consultation with you which prosthesis is the best solution for your knee problem. After the operation, it is important to make an appointment with one of our physiotherapists within a week. This way we can quickly get started with you and work on restoring the mobility of your knee.
Your rehabilitation is specifically aimed at the goals you set yourself. The first phase is getting the pain and swelling under control and improving the mobility of the knee. This is followed by training to increase the load capacity of your knee.
During the intake, your knee problem will be mapped out on the basis of an interview and a physical examination.
After the intake, a treatment plan is drawn up and discussed. It tells you what the best treatment is for you.
If you have knee problems, you will be treated according to one of our care plans. This care plan has been specially developed for knee complaints and shows good results.
Tests are taken at fixed times and questionnaires are completed to monitor your rehabilitation. The outcome is evaluated and the treatment plan adjusted if necessary.
In principle, individual agreements will be made with you. As soon as the knee allows it, we will work with you in our exercise room. This is done in groups with a maximum of three people per group.

Intensive sports are not recommended with a knee prosthesis. Walking and cycling are among the possibilities. Tennis (doubles) is also often possible. Other ball sports are not recommended because they increase the risk of problems with the prosthesis. During rehabilitation, in addition to exercise therapy, your gait pattern will also be examined and an appointment will be made for shoe advice.
