Are your calf muscles bothering you?

Calf complaints are a common complaint among athletes. A moment when calf complaints arise is, for example, a stabbing pain during a sprint. The calf muscle can also be strained, causing pain.

If there is a tear in one of the calf muscles, the rehabilitation will take longer than with a muscle strain. When there is a tear in the calf muscle, it is also called a whiplash.

There are various strength and stretch tests to properly identify calf complaints, but an ultrasound of the calf muscles can also provide a great deal of insight into the type of condition. If necessary, we will also make an ultrasound of your calf muscle(s).
If there is an Achilles tendon problem, we can properly identify this and start your rehabilitation together with you.

Calf complaints can also come from the back. That is why it is important to also analyze the back properly during the intake.
The sooner you start rehabilitation, the faster the recovery will be. Therefore, make an appointment quickly to assess the complaint and to draw up a plan of action.

We are ready for you

If you have any questions about your calf complaints, please contact us.

Revalidation

Your rehabilitation is specifically aimed at the goals you set yourself. The first phase is about getting the pain under control and getting back to a normal walking pattern. Everything that can be performed pain-free is allowed and has a positive influence on recovery. Pain is a signal that you should avoid activity.
When the pain is under control and you can walk pain-free, you can start improving the flexibility of the muscle and optimizing the strength. If the strength is in order, sport-specific exercises can be started to eventually be able to exercise again without complaints.

Intake

During the intake, your calf complaint will be mapped out on the basis of an interview and a physical examination.

Treatment plan

After the intake, a treatment plan is drawn up and discussed. It tells you what the best treatment is for you.

Therapy

If you have calf complaints, you will be treated according to our care plan. The care plan has been specially developed for calf complaints and shows good results.

Measuring moments

Tests are taken at fixed times and questionnaires are completed to monitor your rehabilitation. The outcome is evaluated and the treatment plan adjusted if necessary.

Treatments for calf complaints

After the intake, it may be decided to make an ultrasound of your calf to assess whether there is damage to the muscle tissue or tendon tissue. It can also be considered to apply taping. Exercise therapy is often the obvious treatment strategy. This can start soon after the onset of the calf complaint.
With sufficient strength, sport-specific exercises and running training can be started in order to work towards sports resumption in a responsible manner.
Before sport-specific exercises are started, a gait analysis and shoe advice will first be carried out so that the risk of recurring calf complaints is minimized.
