High back complaints, also known as upper back complaints, are complaints that manifest themselves in most cases between the shoulder blades. We also call the upper back the thoracic spine, that is, the part of the spine that lies between the neck and the lower back and consists of twelve vertebrae. Two ribs are connected to each of the twelve vertebrae.
With high back complaints, just like with the low back and neck, there can be specific and non-specific complaints. In the case of specific upper back complaints, a clear diagnosis can be made of, for example, Bechterev's Disease or Scheuerman's Disease.
It is difficult to make a clear diagnosis in the case of non-specific high back complaints. This form of high back pain is the most common. The complaints are often due to the dysfunction of the thoracic spine. This means that the complaints probably originate from muscles and joints, often as a result of prolonged incorrect posture or physically demanding work. Because this part of the spine has a close relationship with the arm, neck and shoulder, problems often arise here as well.
